People wonder why I chose the name BOMB ASS NATURALS. Well, it's simple really. Our natural hair is the BOMB! Everything about us drips and exudes fierce beauty. Bomb Ass Naturals, by first glance, the name is cocky and in your face. This is exactly the ideal statement I want to portray in the community, in myself, and in my chair.
For many Black women and children, our hair has come with stigma and reproach. We all have similar memories of sitting either in between our mother's, aunt's, or grandmother's knees, wincing in pain from the tugging of combs from the broad boar bristles of the brush and bows. Not to mention the sizzling sound of the hot comb from gas range to scalp, the sound alone sinister enough to send sweat dripping down your head, only delaying the inevitable process. It is in these memories that we begin to develop what we know today as "Black Girl Magic." As cliche as it may sound, it is one of the more significant rituals in a Black woman's life, that creates the Bomb Ass persona that WE are known for. We have been through jeri curls to relaxers to wigs and weaves, all the while, the natural hair community remaining an enigma within our community, waiting to burst through fears, doubts and straight up politics from behind the scenes. Communities of hidden and not so hidden gems, rep afros and curls, but the majority still not accepting the mystery and allure in that of natural hair.
It wasn't until recent history, the acceptance of natural hair became more main stream and while there are communities that still struggle with the stigma of coil and curls, people are starting to accept their natural beauty at accelerated rates. Without having to mention the obvious appropriation of our culture, people altering their bodies to appear more "exotic" and "melanated," we understand that it is all for the love of us. This is why we're DA BOMB! Thus, the birth of BOMB ASS NATURALS. It is my mission to help the community fall madly, truly, and deeply, in love with their hair.
